A spring that lets go in July may not have failed because of July alone. July can find a spring that is already near the end of its count. Tell us what the door did and someone from our team calls you back.

What you get

What you get in Phoenix

Garage door repair in Phoenix is often heat work, and heat work is not the same as broken work. A spring, a roller and a gear case can all age sooner in a garage that runs hotter than the air outside it. What you notice is a door that gets loud, then stiff, then stops. Tell us which stage yours is at and we go over the options with you, with a price agreed before the work starts.

  • A spring pair matched to the cycles your door actually runs.
  • Rollers and hinges freed up before they flat spot.
  • An opener gear case that stops grinding as it goes up.
  • A door that closes on the first press in August.

The doors in Phoenix

Phoenix is the state capital and the largest city in the Valley, over 1.6 million people at the 2020 census. Summer highs there can reach 110 F or more. A garage interior can run hotter than the outside air, and it can hold that heat after the sun has moved off the door.

A spring wears out by cycle count, not by temperature. Heat can add stress to a spring already close to the end of its count and can dry out the grease in the rollers, the hinges and the opener gear case. That can leave a door quiet in March and loud and stiff by August with no part actually broken. Grease is the cheap part of that sentence. A spring is not.

What people ask us in Phoenix

Still have a question? Call (747) 243-2089 and say what the door is doing.

Does the heat really shorten a spring's life?

It can, though not by softening the steel. HomeGuide rates a torsion spring at 10,000 to 20,000 cycles. A spring near the end of that count can carry more stress in a garage that holds heat, so the last stretch of the count may go sooner here than in a cooler place.

The garage is hotter than the yard. Is something wrong?

Usually not. A garage with a metal door and no vent can run hotter than the outside air. That heat can be harder on grease than on the door itself, and grease is among the cheapest items on the list to deal with.

What does a tune up cover?

HomeGuide lists a tune up at $100 to $250 for inspection, adjustment, lubrication, safety checks and minor repairs. On a door that runs every day it can catch a worn roller before it costs a panel.

The door fails only in the afternoon. Why?

Metal moves with heat. A track that is snug in the morning can bind by mid afternoon, and a sensor facing the setting sun can stop seeing its partner. Both show up as a door that works at 8 am and not at 4 pm.
